Selenite stone is the transparent and colourless array of gypsum, reflecting a lustre similar to pearls, exuding the iridescence reminiscent of the moon. The term Selenite derives from the ancient Greek after the "moon".
There are four crystalline varieties of mineral gypsum that fuse together to produce the selenite stone, all four display obvious crystalline structure. The most broadly used minerals in the world, initially it is thought that the first uses of gypsum were for conceiving sculptures.
Prior to extraction from the mines, selenite is very warming with insulating properties as the thermal hot temperature is approximately 50°C (122°F)., once extracted surprisingly selenite is extremely cool to the touch, diamond by contrast, acquires a luminescent lunar (silvery crescent moon like glow) quality.
Selenite crystals are trusted to be one of the most powerful healing stones, with vibrations that are so intense but also extremely calming for clarity, understanding and concentration, keeping specific areas of a room clear of unwanted energy. Selenite is an extraordinarily self-cleaning.
