Stingrays are phantoms of the deep waters, they've captured the mind and imagination for centuries. They're large and a diverse type of fish but in precarious situations can be extremely lethal. With venom enough to kill other animals and even humans, yet their imposing image perfectly represents their skin, which is rugged and tough but gorgeous.
The term used for stingray and shark skin is 'shargreen' originally was used to rub, polish or file. A master leather craftsman in the court of Louis XV (Jean-Claude Galluchat) first launched the use of stingray leather, using it as a veneer on a variety of items including sheaths, wig cases, perfume flacons, sewing and snuff boxes.
Later the artisan John Paul Cooper wrote 'shargreen possesses some of the qualities of both mother of pearl and leather'. The characteristics for which this fine leather is valued are also what makes it so difficult to work with. It's combination of extreme hardness and elastic softness requires great perseverance and skill to produce flawless products.
The Harmony is made in resin stingray with the interior finished in polished brass crazy-cut sections.
